BJP Haryana Chief Minister Mohan Lal Khattar has been infamous for speaking controversy on different issues and he has again landed himself in a fresh controversy after saying that eighty to ninety percent of rape and molestation cases are fabricated.

“The biggest concern is that 80-90 percent such incidents like rape and molestation occur among acquaintances. Girls roam with boys together for a long time and when there is a difference, an FIR is lodged and the girl says, he raped me,” Khattar said.

Khattar had said this while speaking in a function in Kalka town of Panchkula district on Friday.

People across Social Media have expressed shock and anger over his remark. Senior Journalist Pallavi Ghosh called it “absolutely shameful.”

This is not the first time that BJP CM Mohan Lal Khattar has given such statements. In October 2014 after becoming CM of the state, he had said that ““if a girl is dressed decently, a boy will not look at her in the wrong way.” The BJP politician had said in answer on freedom of choice, “If you want freedom, why don’t they just roam around naked? Freedom has to be limited. These short clothes are western influences. Our country’s tradition asks girls to dress decently.”

Khattar government was badly criticised this year in January when two Dalit girls were allegedly raped and killed and a six year old girl was raped a month later.

Twitterati ask Khattar what about rape of a six year old girl. Who she roams with and has a difference? Congress spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala hit out at Haryana Chief Minister and asked him to apologise.

“Anti-Women’ Mindset of Khattar Govt Exposed! Haryana CM Khattarji makes an utterly condemnable remark- “Most girls who interact with boys, get raped,80% rape happen with consent” Blaming Women for complete failures to control Rapes & Gangrapes?Deplorable! CM should apologise,” Surjewala tweeted.
