Breaking News: Former BJP Leader Udit Raj Joins Congress

Member of Parliament from the BJP and the president of All India Confederation of SC/ST Organizations, Udit Raj has joined the Congress party in presence of president Rahul Gandhi.

After having his name dropped by the BJP as a Lok Sabha contestant, he left the party and joined the Gandhian party.

Raj was hopeful to get the ticket from his Lok Sabha constituency of North-west Delhi but when the saffron party announced name of its last candidate Hans Raj Hans he decided to bid good-bye to the party.

After a while, in a different tweet, he said that there was a resentment among his Dalit supporters in country.

“Delay in announcement of my name as a LS candidate from the BJP, there is a country wide resentment among Dalit supporters and when I am not being heard by my party how will an ordinary Dalit get justice,” he tweeted.

Born to a Dalit family in Ramnagar, Uttar Pradesh and converted to Buddhism, Raj is an Indian Member of Parliament in the Lok Sabha, representing the North-west Delhi constituency.

He is the National Chairman of the All India Confederation of SC/ST Organizations. Despite in the BJP for a short term for five years he has been criticising the party on SC/ST issues.

Raj studied BA at Allahabad University, and went on to study at Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi in 1980 and got doctorate from here. He was selected for the Indian Revenue Service in 1988 and served as the Deputy Commissioner, Joint Commissioner and Additional Commissioner of Income Tax at New Delhi. On 24 November 2003 he resigned from government service and formed the Indian Justice Party.

Raj had joined the BJP on 23 February 2014.
