Smaller parties worked as spoilers in Gujarat

Gandhinagar, 20 December 2017: Regional outfits like Bahujan Samaj Party, Nationalist Congress Party and Shiv Sena might have nothing at stake in Gujarat. Yet they contested polls and walked away with some votes.

A post-poll analysis suggests that had they not been in the fray the results would have been different. The Congress along with its alliance and Independent candidates managed to get 80-plus seats while the BJP 99.

In at least 10 seats the parties led by Mayawati and Sharad Pawar together polled more votes than the margin by which the BJP winner defeated the Congress runner-up.

But it depends on if all these votes polled by BSP and NCP would have gone to the Congress if the two would not have been in the fray.

The Shiv Sena played the similar role for the BJP. It put up 42 candidates but lost deposits in all of them. Together the 42 candidates managed to get 33,893 votes. Just 11 of them got more than a thousand votes.

  1. Unquestionably believe that which you said. Your favorite justification seemed to be on the internet the easiest thing to be aware of. I say to you, I certainly get irked while people think about worries that they plainly don’t know about. You managed to hit the nail upon the top as well as defined out the whole thing without having side-effects , people could take a signal. Will likely be back to get more. Thanks|
