Swaraj India slams Chhatisgarh police on the arrest of journalist Vinod Verma

-Press Release

New Delhi, 28 October | Newly formed political party, the Swaraj India has questioned the arrest of Senior Journalist Vinod Verma by Chhatisgarh & UP Police at 3:30 am pre-dawn yesterday from his Ghaziabad home. The freelance journalist who has earlier worked with BBC Hindi and Amar Ujala, was also a part of the fact-finding team of the Editors guild that looked into intimidation of journalists in Chhatisgarh. Verma, a member of the Editors guild was working on a story involving a BJP minister in the Raman Singh government.

Terming the arrest an attack on press freedom, Swaraj Abhiyan President Prashant Bhushan has slammed the Raman Singh government for its police act. The Senior Lawyer & noted anti-corruption crusader said, “CM Raman Singh gives commissions in Agusta deal, his son opens account in tax havens, but arrests journo who is exposing his govt’s Corruption!” He further pointed that it is fine for Ministers in Raman Singh raj to do an ND Tiwari, but exposing that is a crime whereas his Shahzada can open Account in foreign tax haven.

It should be noted that Bhushan had last year exposed the Agusta Westland Scam of Raman Singh government where his MP son was also found to be in collusion for earning commissions by opening accounts in foreign tax havens.
