
Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) Special Investigation Team (SIT) found constable Prashant Chaudhary and constable Sandeep Rana guilty of intentionally killing the 38 year old Apple Executive. The report condemned it was an encounter as claimed by the accused constable and UP Police association. The SIT was founded by the Uttar Pradesh government to investiage the killing of Vivek Tiwari. The SIT report has come 80 days after taking over the case by the Special Investigation Team.
The incident took place in September when Tiwari was on his way to drop his colleague Sana after attending the launch event of a new phone.
Tiwari’s vehicle was intercepted by two constables – Chaudhary and Rana -on a motorbike near Makhdumpur police post from the opposite direction. Tiwari had reportedly stopped his vehicle during which brushed against their bike.
According to the SIT report, Rana got down from the vehicle and poked Sana with a ‘lath’ while Caudhary took out his service pistol and fired a shot at Tiwari.
Later the duo fled the spot and informed the SHO Gomtinagar that a car had hit their vehicle.
The SIT report carries details of the sequence and reveals that the entire incident took place in 38 seconds.
The report also recommends administrative action against ASP (Gomtinagar) and SHO (Gomtinagar) for not following the procedures.
The SIT was headed by IG (Lucknow range) Sujeet Pandey and was formed on September 30.
