Panaji (Goa): Ailing Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on Sunday inspected an under-construction bridge on Mandovi River here, the first time he has been seen in public since returning to the state on October 14 post hospitalisation in Delhi’s AIIMS.

Parrikar has been suffering from a pancreatic ailment and has been to the United States for three months. His continuity as the CM of Goa despite his illness raised a question. Three months in September this year he had removed his two ministers on illness background.

In a report published in TOI, he had dropped two of his ailing ministers – Urban development minister Francis D’Souza and Power Mnister Pandurang Madkaikar from the state cabinet.

When he had removed his own ministers on illness ground, why the same rule had not applied on him so far is a question to be asked.

Former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Omar Abdullah has continuing as the CM of Goa in spite of his continued illness.

“He has a tube inserted through his nose into his digestive tract. How inhuman to force him to continue working & doing photo ops. Why can’t he be allowed to deal with his illness without all this pressure & tamasha?” Omar tweeted.

Twitterati have a mixed reaction. Many praised his work integirty whereas many have suggested him rest and asked to leave the job of CM.

A Twitter user, Anshu CHoudhary praised his dedication. “Never seen before Dedication from a CM towards his State. India Needs Much More years of service from you sir @manoharparrikar Stay in good health,” he tweeted.

Pradeep Shukla asked BJP to give Parrikar rest. “I am not criticising @BJP4India or anyone else but i think bjp should ask manohar sir to take rest from his post and first recover himself from his current condition…just for the sake of gov under coalition in goa he has been over used and exploited,” he tweeted.

Another Twitter user Kiran also suggested him to have rest. “@manoharparrikar sir, pls look after your health first. Please take all necessary rest and medications. Speedy recovery sir,” she tweeted.

K Anup criticised his gesture. “Its no dedication .He knows very well if he backed from CM post ..MLA will fly as caged bird,” he tweeted.

It is important to note that Manohar Parrikar was Indian Defence Minister when Rafale deal was initiated and Modi led NDA government is accused in scamming in this deal.
