An ex IPS officer Amitabh Kumar Das has sought Y-category security after a Special Branch report mentioning threat to his life surfaced yesterday . The Special Branch, the Bihar Police Intelligence Wing, has said in its report that Das is very high on the hit-lists of the Ranveer Sena and the Mafia.
Ranveer Sena is an outlawed private militia of landlords. Amitabh Kumar Das, a 1994 batch IPS officer, was given premature retirement in 2018 by the Narendra Modi Govt. Das has challenged the decision in the CAT (Central Administrative Tribunal) and the matter is sub judice. Das was known as a no-nonsense police officer who took on the high and mighty. A fearless cop, Das was the Election Commission of India Police Observer in Gujarat in 2012 when he accused the then Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi of fomenting communal trouble in the Daang district.

In 2014, Das charged the Union Minister Giriraj Singh with links with the Ranveer Sena. When Das was the Railways SP, Patna from 2001 to 2003, he crossed swords with the then Railways Minister Nitish Kumar. At the time, railways contracts worth crores of rupees were given to the mafia by Nitish and Co. When Nitish Kumar became the Bihar Chief Minister in 2005, Das was ruthlessly persecuted by a vindictive Bihar Government. In 2017, Das was given promotion to the IG rank after the Supreme Court ruled in his favour. As the SP of the Naxal-hit Arwal district in 2003, Das submitted a proposal demanding the inclusion of the Ranveer Sena in the list of terrorist outfits under POTA. He was transferred soon after.
When contacted by The Morning Chronicle , Das was unfazed. He said that the mafia was running the country and honest officers were victims of surgical strikes. Das said that he would soon move the court for the Y category security which is the third highest category after Z+, Z and Y+. He also declared that his fight against the mafia would continue till the last drop of his blood.
