Nitish Kumar resigns from the post of chief Minister of Bihar on Wednesday in what is seen as an expected call from an unpredictable leader. He gave his resignation to the Governor, Keshari Nath Tripathi and in most probable scenario will retake the charge of government with NDA’s support.
It was widely speculated that JDU will take a decision on Grand Alliance before the assembly sessions which is going to start from 28th July. The episode which began with CBI’s raid and FIR against Lalu family including Deputy Chief Minister Tejaswi Yadav finally culminated with Nitish’s JDU abandoning grand alliance.
As Prime Minister Narendra Modi straight away tweeted and welcomed the decision congratulating for “joining in the fight against corruption”, the future course of action of Nitish Kumar become apparent. Meanwhile, Bihar BJP has promptly accepted the leadership of Nitish Kumar and announced that it will join the government.
Before, handing his resignation talking to media persons Nitish said that he was in communication with Lalu ji and Tejaswi even though we did not ask for anyone’s resignation, he made it clear many times that Tejashwi should prove his innocence with point wise rebuttal of the specific charges. He further said that when Tejashwi failed to do so there was no meaning of being in power when corruption charges are leveled against a member of his government, he found himself unable to run the government in such a scenario. So finally listening to his conscience he took the call.
What has appeared as veiled attack on Lalu Yadav, He philosophically quoted Mahatma Gandhi that needs could be met but there is no end of greed. People are amassing properties. on the other hand, Nitish defended his decision of supporting demonetisation and said many gossips were making round at the time, however he had given his nod for its potential to curb ‘unaccounted properties’.
In a blistering counter attack RJD chief Lalu Yadav said that we knew that against Nitish Kumar cases of murder and arms act are under way but we never spoke. He specifically mentioned IPC 302 and 307 and said in these cases Nitish has been charge sheeted and lower court has even taken cognizance in one case.
In such a situation , who is liable to resign, a person against whom mere an FIR is registered or who is already charge sheeted for dreadful crimes, he asked. Lalu further alleged that Nitish is having a tie with BJP and RSS. He mentioned PM Narendra Modi immediate tweet and said it was all scripted.
Indeed, the rapid speed at which proceedings after resignation took place points to some early understanding with NDA.
