New Delhi, Feb 9: Leaders of Congress and some other opposition parties on Friday met President Ram Nath Kovind and demanded a thorough investigation by an independent agency into the “suspicious” death of Justice B.H. Loya.

Talking to reporters after the meeting, Congress President Rahul Gandhi said that apart from parliamentarians, people of the country also feel that the judge died in suspicious circumstances.

“We want to have proper investigation done by an independent agency that gives us the outcome. We feel there is suspicion in his death and the country also feels that,” he said.

“There was a sentiment and 114 MPs felt this should be taken to the President,” he added.

Gandhi said that the probe should be carried out by an independent special investigative team and should be monitored by the Supreme Court.

Justice Loya, who was holding the trial into the alleged staged shootout death of Sohrabuddin Sheikh and two others, died in December 2014. BJP President Amit Shah was an accused in the case but later discharged.
