Gauri Lankesh, a senior journalist, theatre person and noted film maker in Bengaluru, has been shot dead at her residence in Rajarajeshwari Nagar.
The Bengaluru Police Commissioner has confirmed the incident. Police officers have rushed to the spot.
According to local reports, she was shot three times from close range and was collapsed on the spot.
She published a weekly tabloid “Gauri Lankesh” in Kannada, and was seen as a fearless, independent and outspoken journalist. She had been under attack from people with right wing ideology.
